We're collecting here a summary of the most important points raised in the discussion during HUB4.5. Aidan Budd 12:07, 28 February 2013 (CET)

HUB Aims

Two key sets of interest/aims emerged:

  • getting to know each other better
  • learning more about relevant technologies and science

Participant Motivation

Two key motivations were prominent in the reasons why people attend HUB meetings and get involved in HUB in general:

  • having fun through socialising
  • engaging in activities that help our careers

Aidan Budd 12:07, 28 February 2013 (CET)

A key feature for the career-development aspect was to focus on developing mini-projects for HUB participants to get involved in, which produce outcomes that can be used on our CVs. Best example of this is the publication that is emerging from HUB3. We will continue to focus future meetings on this kind of issue i.e. a platform to start up projects for us to participate in together. Aidan Budd 12:07, 28 February 2013 (CET)

HUB meeting format

  • Keen to keep opportunities for (maximum 2 per meeting) flash talks
  • Enthusiasm to promote the "learning" aspect by using HUB to bring together, for discussions outside the HUB meetings themselves, groups of people with similar technical/scientific-topic interests:
    • Before the meeting, collect on the wiki topics of interest, associated with people interested in them
    • During the meeting, further chance to sign up for these
    • In pub after the meeting, cluster people together based on these groupings
      • If they want, these people can of course follow up these chats with further meetings on these topics outside the HUB events
  • We will collect feedback immediately after the HUB meetings via the relevant "Discussion" pages i.e. on the equivalent to this page, participants will be encouraged to do so at the end of each meeting, as a way of following up on ideas/thoughts associated with the meeting
