BUB1 – Tools you don’t want to be without anymore!
May 31, 2016 from 19:00 - 21:00Free
This unseminar (the first Budapest Unseminar in Bioinformatics – i.e. BUB1) is a social event associated with the EMBO Practical Course on Computational analysis of protein-protein interactions: Sequences, networks and diseases taking place in May/June 2016 in Budapest.
The event aims to help course participants (trainers and trainees) and any locals from Budapest interested in this topic, to meet up, have fun, get to know each other better, and exchange ideas and experiences around tools they use, in the work, and personal lives, that you just wouldn’t want to be without anymore!
Maybe there are some Apps you use on your phone that make some parts of your life hugely easier/simpler – maybe a task manager such as OmniFocus?) – or there are some tools associated with preparing documents (personally, I’m in love with markdown for this!) – or maybe you’re someone who finds BLAST just, still, super-useful…? This is a chance to share your enthusiasm for things like this with others, and learn about their own tips and tricks and tools too!
Provisional plan is to begin the session with an ice-breaker (we’ll probably use speed-networking/speed-dating) to help us meet each other and have lots of one-to-one chats with each other.
We’ll then use an Open Space Technology (OST) approach to forming smaller groups to discuss and compare our experiences of handy tools we use, in a range of different domains. OST is set up to make it easy for you to move from group to group as the discussions and conversations you’re having change, and your interests in them change with it.
While doing that, we’ll try and capture online the ideas and tools that people come up with during the session, so that others who are interested in this, but not participating in the session in person, can also see and hear about the tools we’re finding indispensable!
